Hi Andre! Glad you are here!
woohooo go priya ❤️❤️❤️
Way to go Priya
Congratulations.. I told ya you have my support. Keep leading
Welcome to the Foothill Family Katherine!
John so sorry to hear about your loss.
Thank you Professor Fox for your truth.
You are not alone.
Well said John
Thank you so much Prof. Fox for your honest reflection, feedback.
In General Counseling, we offer all the same services - just online. We offer 30-min telephone and Zoom appointments. In addition, we have Quick Questions weekly
All student services are still being offered just virtually including counseling, student affairs, disability resources, financial aid, student employment, admissions/records, Psych Services, EOPS.
?? How will administration and student leaders further support their African American students and greater community during these times??
?? For emergency relief fund, I filled out the form already and received an email that I am eligible to apply for the fund. What do I do after this?
how do you know when you are approved for funds?
Great question Jayme.
I have not received anything for several weeks after my form has been reviewed. How long will it take?
Great question Priya.
Alice, Carole, Jayme. Thank you for your questions. We will get to yours and more in a few mins.
Yay Project Hope :-)
?? What are the initiatives of project hope, why is there a pause when students need more support now??
Hello Jayme, thank you for your question. Project HOPE supports mental health wellness awareness on campus through events and helps promote Psychological Services through outreach through destigmatization.
Mochi, thank you for all you said. You are right that nobody knows how to navigate this, but I hope that we can figure it out together. I am also a kinesthetic learner-- maybe that's my challenge as on online teacher.
@Mochi, we understand and stand in solidarity with you. Your Foothill family is here (virtually) for you!
Thank you Mochi for sharing your honest feedback!
Thank you Mochi for your truth.
The club hopes to re-open soon, as the student members shared about difficulties with continuing given the rapid transition to fully online among other stressors. Currently, there is still the ASFC Mental Health Task Force, Psych Services, and the Wellness Student Ambassadors to help assist with the same wellness goals on campus.
@Alice once you complete the form you don’t have to do anything else. Your request will be processed by the Financial Aid Office. Depending on when you submitted your form, it can take about a week or so for you to receive your award in the mail. Please email email@example.com to inquire about the status of your award.
Yes, teachers are assigning so much more work to "make sure" students aren't just "hanging out" at home. There needs to be more compassion and empathy.
Thank you Mochi. That was well said.
@Mochi, thank you again. I can say that THIS faculty member cares. Feel free to talk to me.
Mochi this is well said
Professors really need to be considerate about that while we do have the time we also need our own time to reflect on what is going on around the world. Too much is being piled up on us.
@Mochi, thank you for speaking up for all students feeling the same way
@Mochi very well said
Well said. Thank you.
Within focusing on destigmatizing the protesters efforts in the BLM movement, how can Project Hope collaborate with the ASFC Mental Health Task Force and the Wellness Student Ambassadors, as well as African American students to not only provide mental health support but also provide clarity for the community on the initiatives behind the movement today?
Professors are not being flexible at all. My teacher is dinging late assignments, meanwhile 3/4th of the assignments we've turned in have yet to be graded. It seems that teachers are well aware of being distracted.
@Mochi, you are the voice of reason! I am so grateful you have spoken up to help ensure change is made! You are not alone and you are representing many others, you are a rtue leader!!!
Thank you Mochi! I agree with you as well. I am currently taking my Masters Online. I’ve made a difficult decision to withdraw from my last class to graduate and retatke it in August. This pandemic, my special need daughter, and the social injustice of racisim. It was too much for me to handle. It was unfair to me and my classmate if I continued. I stand with you.
I have to jump to another meeting (believe me I'd rathe be in this one) but thank you to Priya and all the panelists nd everyone for coming.
And not everyone has more free time. Personally, I’m busier this quarter than I was last quarter. I’m working part time and taking 18 units while also dealing with anxiety and depression at the same time. Everyone is struggling right now, and it’s really hard to focus 100% on school right now with so much going on.
Thank you Professor Fox for your time!
And I hear you.
Thank you for time Professor Fox
I believe that we need to have either ZOOM Support Groups (I.e. small groups), so that each person can speak about there situation(s).
Thanks for your question Jayme. It may be helpful to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org regarding this. This is something that the club student members/leaders to also respond. I appreciate your inquiry.
Ouch. Sorry to hear about this Mochi.
I have to jump off to another meeting. However, I would like to personally thank all faculty and students for voicing their honest perspectives. Thank you for creating this safe space. I think many faculty and students feel the same way. I believe that the Foothill community have done a great job transitioning in such a short notice in March. However, I think at this time, we would need to find a common ground/ support that works for both faculty and students' success.
Thank you Clifton, I will reach out.
@Katherine: would you prefer the college arrange possible support groups or ASFC? This is something we could certainly do.
I agree Mochi. I’m having to reach out to my professors when it should be the other way around.
Not a single one at all, teachers who do occasional, rare Zoom meetings have not even added any meetings to this week. It's business as usual, meanwhile society is destabilizing around us.
How about creating Virtual Committees to approach these issues?
I totally agree with you Mochi
@Mochi, your voice is your superpower please use it. I am always reachable and easy to find. I am to be present in another space now thank you all students for your voices, you speak for those that are silenced and constantly silenced.
We have to figure it out together.
I agree with you
I’ve had supportive professors during this quarter of unrest. Very encouraging. I’m sorry to hear you’ve has a different experince Mochi
They need to understand the situation of these students, yet they seemingly don't care
care and understand the students
Mochi, it breaks my heart to hear that you are feeling this way. I am here to help assist.
Now is not the time to assign more work. I’m worried about not being able to pass my classes and being able to transfer in the fall to SJSU. I shouldn’t have to worry about this on top of everything else.
They need to be more compassionate, which is why their response is so strange. In any other country people would be calling the riots, the beginning of a civil war. This is ridiculous
One of the frustrating things with Canvas - locked assignments after due dates. At home it’s easy to fall asleep or become distracted in something else and miss your deadlines. In person classes gives students the opportunity to bring there late assignments in person for consideration. May no more “this assignment was locked at 11:59pm” leave it open for students to turn in work til the quarter ends
And this is happening in classes that have no extra-credit opportunities. What is going to happen to the students that were arrested for exercising their first amendment rights?
Thank you Abhi for speaking out. It’s so hard feeling like the floor is always falling apart everytime I find some kind of foundation to move forward
Same, Abhi! I even got a class calendar in winter quarter that was supposed to be for fall, before the pandemic!
Nicely shared Abhi. Thank you.
Yes, when assignments are locked, we can’t go back to review our answers for midterms and finals
These teachers haven't updated, nor curtailed, their classes and curriculum. Teachers who are currently not accepting late work, or accepting late work with sever penalties, is absolutely tone-deaf, ridiculous, and, I would say, being complicit in participating in racial injustice in the US.
