If now there is no reason for a class to be classified as f2f for purposes of international students, is there another reason to keep the classes in the schedule as f2f (or hybrid)? It seems to me that students are reluctant to enroll into courses that are identified still as f2f/hybrid - if you look at enrollment into online-designated, much higher. I guess my question is: if an instructor is definitely NOT going to require synchronous meetings, should we switch all of those classes to online (W in the schedule with TBA hours)?
JSinclair
01:29:34
I have heard from several colleagues who adamantly want to maintain a distinction between online and virtual. I will send you some contacts...
Debbie Lee
01:29:43
@Kathyrn: I think that is an individual faculty member’s choice.
Amber La Piana
01:30:07
@Kathryn, also, in addition to the academic freedom part of it, I think it’s because once designated as online, they automatically roll over with that designation the following year and have to be manually changed (so a lot of work for schedulers, etc)
Debbie Lee
01:30:49
Some faculty are providing students both synchronous and asynchronous instruction for students who register for in-person classes.
Alexis Aguilar
01:30:59
@Kathryn I agree. We should move classes to W for any faculty who requests it.
Denise Perez
01:31:18
Changing every class to online in Banner will be a logistical nightmare for Shawna and I since all of this is handled by the Scheduling Office.
Ram Subramaniam
01:31:27
If a student is on OPT- and has gone back to their home country, can they continue to work? Say, as a tutor in a virtual environment? And can we pay them.
Mike Mohebbi
01:31:32
can we leverage the ISP orientation model for campus wide scale?
Denise Perez
01:32:01
Courses can be changed to fully online if the course already has distance ed approval through the state.
Amber La Piana
01:32:12
Thanks for that helpful information, Jordan.
Mike Mohebbi
01:32:15
online tutoring will be in demand, especially short term
JSinclair
01:32:18

There was a meeting yesterday that Isaac led, and I think we need to make a decision as a college, to help implement a "sea change" from paper to digital, if indeed that is our direction. There are cost and other advantages to digital.
