we have a gift from a native tribe hanging in the Toyon room (that used to hang in the Admin building), if we don't want to disrespect that gift we should support this resolution

Andre's situation highlights a systemic inequality in participatory governance, several aspects:- time commitment creates conflict with classified position duties- participation creates conflict between classified staff and supervisors- additional work of governance disproportionately burdens the least compensated groups in the college (students, paid zero, and classified, paid the least)
Josh Pelletier
41:24
Also, y’all can see updates in Parliament every Friday

41:52
twas share the why we do not have it? due to load and assignments? like they(FA) have too much work to justify diversity.

part of this equity conversation is going to involve how the college prioritizes funding, so R&R and the finance folks are gonna be crucial

Point of clarification: Debbie Lee is a dean, she is not faculty, and not faculty leadership on FA, I would caution interpreting her comments as coming from FA. Personally it feels like a deflect and pointing of the finger/ divide and conquer. That is not to say their aren’t any issues within FA, there are. But I can also assure you that the current FA leadership does not assert that we have too much work to diversify faculty. If anything we have been taking a deep dive into institutional barriers and cultural practices in the hiring process and contract that prevent it, that need to be resolved/confronted.
Chris Chavez
47:32
Thank you for the clarification Kerri

Thank you all for listening/reading <3
Mike Mohebbi (He/Him)

@kerri, I feel like Debbie did a great job interpreting and explaining the technical and kind of back end HR requirements of the faculty assignment process (I forget what the actual thing is called sorry). To me, having that perspective and information clearly laid out is super helpful when trying to identify equity actions or changes.
Mike Mohebbi (He/Him)
50:41
I think Adrienne's point here is similar to what i'm trying to say ^^
Kerri Ryer
52:29
@Mike absolutely all perspectives are valuable. I was just cautioning against interpreting one perspective as coming from a group that it did not come from directly. :)
Mike Mohebbi (He/Him)

@christine, i think that's a great point that needs to be made, that so much if not all of these policies and college culture predates Thuy

From the Equity Plan:
Jerry Robredo
01:27:48
ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENTWith the tremendous efforts that must occur to provide more equitable student experiences, accountability becomes an important element in that process toward change. To be accountable is essentially taking initiative and ownership of the work to create equitable outcomes. This can be accomplished individually within one’s day-to-day responsibilities, culturally within the practices of one’s department and in collaboration with colleagues, and structurally through administrative procedures, policies, and strategic planning.
Mike Mohebbi (He/Him)
01:28:29
i only had my hand up to reiterate one of chris's points, that this "confrontation" (for lack of better word) is a culmination of other inequities that classifieds have faced with the classification study, reorganizations, budget cuts, etc, stuff that is completely out of Thuy's control
Mike Mohebbi (He/Him)
01:29:01
^^ yes, JERRY!! referencing our own words and holding ourselves accountable
Mike Mohebbi (He/Him)
01:30:45
yes this is great thuy!!
Mike Mohebbi (He/Him)
01:33:20
@thuy, you're right, i also feel that having the clear policies and more equitable processes is crucial to addressing those nuanced situations as well
Mike Mohebbi (He/Him)
01:36:03
@thuy, that level of campus prioritization of funding to alleviate an inequality faced by PT faculty is something that i would like to see extended to more participatory governance groups
Mike Mohebbi (He/Him)
01:38:11
i think revisiting the governance schedule on a regular basis is important, especially as the current schedule is essentially 2 yrs old
Andre Meggerson
01:38:22
what students since they create town halls and events on Thursday afternoons because they have the time to do so?
Andre Meggerson
01:40:03
Those PGA do not count towards retirement right Chris?
Christine Mangiameli
01:42:34
PGA does not count toward CalPERS unless it’s school classes. But, we do get an ongoing payroll increase that can be substantial over the years.
Mike Mohebbi (He/Him)
01:43:16
