In Santa Clara, 22,000+ have been laid off since March 17, compared with 5000 all of last year.
?Will the budget be based on the taxes people paid in 2019?
Yes, taxes impact the budget. We are waiting for information on taxes. They are not due until 7/15.
@Alexis: many businesses will take huge deductions for 2019/20 and not claim any profits at all. The State revenues will be decimated.
BACCC call this morning mentioned that the first pass at next year's state budget will probably be duplicate of last year, mentioned the later filing date for taxes as one reason for delays and lack of clarity on budget projections (+current economic impact of SIP)
The question was a little funky... it didn't include the term "household" or $25k as a definition of low income.
??Sorry - can you clarify, what is the answer to the poll? Is it no? In other words, the majority of our African American students at Foothill are not low income? And same for Latinx? Thanks for clarifying - would be good to know
Yes, we should NOT assume that Latino students are poor, or have had poor k12 prep, especially for STEM, as that becomes a stereotype. That said, I have learned to be much more aware of the burdens that many of our students have in raising young families, which cuts into study time.
@Simon But taxes are filed for the calendar year not school year. So, why should the Covid crisis be reflected in last year's taxes?
But didn't the data show that of the low income students a majority were Latinx and African American?
Hugely important, especially in the first two weeks
@Micaela: Data is among those who are low income, which represent roughly 25% of student population. So the rate of low income Latinx and African American is a subset of this 25%. More Latinx and African Americans are not low income.
Lene, we are seeing your zoom screen!
this program sounds awesome
Thanks Elaine. I've never been good at math! ;-)

Yes, looks great!
@Micaela: Rates vs. Numbers confuse me too! Always takes me a second to put my thinking cap on. You are not alone!
Just having someone to contact, is a lifeline for anyone struggling with a technology issue
It’s been incredible to work with people across our student services who are so interested in serving our students!!
Which room are you traveling to?
bring your light sabers!
Thank you for supporting the students as they learn how to use the tech. We’re finding that a major issue for our students in their ability to actually access the internet via their ISP. Not all ISPs are equal and not all neighborhoods in the South Bay have modern infrastructure. How do we address this?
Hi Thuy—I am looking forward to the conversation tomorrow at Advisory Council. For over a year, stakeholders have been asking who their manager will be. In light of the pandemic and the students listing tutoring as their #3 need, what is the operational plan for tutoring now that the Dean is on hold and there are no longer faculty directors?
Happy birthday again President Thuy.
Will your 2pm birthday today be at this same Zoom meeting link?
Happy Birthday Thuy!
